HE HAS DONE GREAT THINGS
When Mary learned that she was going to give birth to the Savior she said, “He who is mighty has done great things for me” (Lk. 1:49). Consider some things involved in Mary’s statement here.

God is powerful. Mary sang praises to God because of His power. We are not serving an idol made with human hands, but the living God. Our hope in Him is an earnest expectation that He will keep His promises (I Pet. 1:3). What other god can make such promises and keep them? God works through human history to accomplish His will, but He never interferes with us to the point that we cannot choose whether to serve Him (Josh. 24:15). God’s promise to Mary was not yet fulfilled (Lk. 1:45), but Mary knew that God cannot lie (Titus 1:3).

God works in the lives of individuals. Mary did not count herself deserving of the high honor God granted her (Lk. 1:48). Yet she realized that God was doing great things for her. Mary alone was present at Jesus’ birth and His death. She knew Jesus better than almost anyone. Following His resurrection she saw the salvation He provided (Acts 1-2). Has God not been active in our lives as well? God’s deeds done for mankind are done for us. Our relationship with God is personal and through Jesus’ blood we have access to His throne (Heb. 4:14-16). Let us praise God for what He has done and is doing on our behalf. He has done great things for us.
